Below, I have posted a recent article indicating that about 1/4 of Americans are working beyond the age of 65. That certainly debunks the IBO myth that 98% of people are dead or broke by age 65. It should be noted that the older folks still working make very good money. More food for thought should be how you as an IBO will benefit from the Amway business if you are not making money or if you are losing money due to continuous purchases of "educational" materials.

A Quarter of Americans Still Work After Age 65

Retirement is a thing of the past for a quarter of Americans over age 65. Just over 25 percent of those between ages 65 and 74 were still working in 2008, according to the latest Census Bureau numbers. And amazingly 9 percent of Americans still go to work between ages 75 and 84. After age 85, the number still working trickles down to 3 percent or about 122,000 people who continue to hammer away at their keyboard or punch in with their time clock.
Most people over age 65 still in the workforce are professionals (20 percent) or hold management positions (19 percent). A large portion of seniors also work in the service industry (18 percent) and sales (15 percent) or have office jobs (12 percent). But a few retirees also manage to do sometimes strenuous jobs such as production and transportation (12 percent) or construction and maintenance (5 percent).
Many of the seniors who continue to work full time have earnings at the top of the pay scale. About 20 percent of those age 65 and over make over $75,000 annually and just over half (53 percent) earn between $25,000 and $75,000 from work. Slightly over a quarter of those working full time in retirement make less than $25,000 annually.
The article doesn't debunk anything to be honest. Most people still work after 65 because they would not be able to live otherwise. Few work just because they like to work at that age. Imagine being 85 years old and waking up to an alarm clock at 5 AM... don't want to, won't have to. Maybe Joecool does. I'm 29 and already tired of working the hard way.
ReplyDeleteReading comprehension. Many IBOs claim that 98% of Americans are dead or broke by age 65. While it is possibly an economic trend for 1/4 of those over 65 to be working, it certainly is not the vast majority as IBOs like to claim.
ReplyDeleteyou want to talk about reading comprehension. just because they're working does not mean that they aren't broke, living paycheck to paycheck.
DeleteGood! I chose to not belong to the 1/4! Do you have a problem with that? As for the 3/4, they still live the way you do as you claim. I'm Joecool, I'm not broke, good for you! Go for the 3/4 then but you still belong to the 98% who genuinely believe they live like the 2%. If they actually lived like them, why do they have online blogs like yours? The 2% don't have such blogs.
ReplyDeleteTired at 29??? Holy cow, if you can't handle it now, what makes you think you can handle the workload to get to Platinum???
ReplyDeleteIf you proclaim to be Christian - your honest labor is one way you honor God, no matter what the work is.
Maybe the problem is we have it too easy in this current society....
Anonymous, you choose not to be the 1/4? Good for you! Why not choose to win the lottery too?

ReplyDeleteNot sure if it's funny or sad, but the REAL 1/4 aren't in Amway. The leaders like to talk a good talk and such, but in the end, it's all just a show to make people think this is true. Donald Trump doesn't answer to a whole lot of folks, get it? BTW, he makes more than Bill Britt AND Dexter Yager combined. One more point, you will also find quite a few people who are savvy real estate investors even if they may not make Trump like money.
Each of the points I make cannot be found in Amway, not unless one likes to spin anything and everything they come across.
In the lottery, I have no control, I'm at the mercy of hiting the jackpot. Of course, if I wanted to, I could make a deal to get a printed ticket with the actual winning number. Not too honest it seems but hey , it's all about choice.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Anonymous who asks me why I'm tired at 29... I don't see how society can become better by enforcing the mentality "work from 25 till ?" You should learn to work smart so that you can have your 24 hours more rewarding to yourself. If you're single, it may be ok but if you have family, that family life goes down the tubes. I've seen it and have decided to have nothing to do with it. I've worked since 25 and haven't accumulated more than 50K all these years. Doing the same thing every day, Monday to Friday and what for? Peanuts? Sorry man. When it comes to going Platinum, I do it on my own terms, not someone else's. So I have control over my venture, my passion my determination and don't care who says what. I know it best when it comes to me, not you, not someone else. God ultimately knows the best. You're not God. And you're right; no matter what the work is, if it's honest labor, it's a way to honor God. What I'm doing in this business is honest labor. No one suffers except by their own choices. On the other hand you suffer because you don't understand this business so you conjure up fantasy scenarios and hear-say. Awesome. And what I just said is part of the problem that we have it too easy in this current society... het get rich quick you know, if it doesn't work blame the other guy, blame yourself never. I'm not 100% Christian, it's a struggle for me to overcome in becoming but I never give up no matter who says what. I am!
Well there Mr. "Tired at 29" -
ReplyDeleteNice platitudes - but that's all they are, platitudes. It's great to want more - but - if you are not capable of parlaying some of your earnings into savings - THAT is the problem and being an IBO doesn't solve it.

I was a 2500 pin and worked hard for that, my sponsor was a 4000 and worked even harder. My Platinum was a 6-nights/week 12-14 hours STP and building groups and never went beyond Platinum!!! Does that sound like oodles of free time???
BTW - before you give the lame excuse that my Platinum "didn't build it the right way" - his immediate sponsor and mentor is a Diamond!!!
Seriously, I'm going to start watching for reports for IBOs jumping off bridges en masse since they can't deal with the real world.
Spare me the "I've left the rat race" speil - It's old and tired.
Sigh.....
Even at platinum, you don't have control of your business unless you you have enough customers buying 7500 PV each month, you have no control. You cannot prevent people from quitting, espeically when they are losing money. Or, one bad incident and your entire group might quit. One fight with your upline and your business can be damaged. It's not worth the trouble.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's not worth the trouble associating with Joecool and his gang of ordinary, average, conventional, real people. I prefer the association of extraordinary, above average, non-conventional, visionary people.
ReplyDeleteYou mean the kool aid drinking brain washed zombies that blindly believe and follow upline's orders?
ReplyDeleteWell, if one's idea of "visionary" is aligning themselves with an 50+ year old company with a less than 1% success rate..........have at it!
ReplyDeleteWhen they commission the monuments to the IBO, let me know - I won't hold my breath, though!
I wouldn't trade my "ordinary" life for your lap-dog, brown-nosing, idol-worshipping helpless sheep life the IBO has, ever.
Next!!
YES, I DO ALIGN MYSELF WITH A 50+ YEAR OLD COMPANY WITH LESS THAN 1% SUCCESS RATE BECAUSE I LOVE TO! YOU ALIGN YOURSELF WITH YOUR ORDINARY LIFE BECAUSE YOU LOVE TO! GET OVER IT!
ReplyDeleteWell, enjoy your poverty. The rest of us with jobs will retire comfortably.
ReplyDeleteHey Anon - scream all you want! Posers always have to cover up their failure by increasing the volume!!
ReplyDeleteBeing the loudest sheep doesn't change the fact you're still......sheep!
Thanks for the laugh, though!
Baaaaaaa..........
YES, THE REST OF YOU WITH JOBS WILL LIVE AT THE MERCY OF CHANCE, ECONOMY AND POLITICS.
ReplyDeleteANONYMOUS, I LOVE YOU! SEE, I DON'T SCREAM BECAUSE I'M A SHEEP; I'M NOT, I'M MENTAL, M.E.N.T.A.L! LONG LIVE LIFE, LONG LIVE AMWAY!
Anonymous from Canada,
ReplyDeleteWhat makes you think an Amway business cannot be affected by chance, the economy, politics, or even your upline or downline? If you think Amway is your savior, have at it. You will quit and disappear like all the others have in the past. Going Crown, going diamond and a host of others who were just like you disappeared into thin air.
YES, I ALREADY HAVE AT IT AND MAKE IT MY LONG-TERM FINANCIAL REWARD. AS FOR QUITTING, WHAT MAKES YOU SAY THAT I WILL QUIT? WHAT MAKES YOU BELIEVE 100% THAT IT WILL HAPPEN? IS IT BECAUSE YOU DID? I'M NOT JOECOOL! I'M A STUBBORN MAN WHO CROSSES OVER DEAD CORPSES WITH Z.E.R.O REGARD! YOU'RE ONE OF THOSE CORPSES!
ReplyDeleteAnon, you won't be around for long. You're just like the others.
ReplyDeleteSome of you guys are soooo dumb. 98% percent of people being broke by the age of 65 was true in 1934, after things like Social Security were enacted and the percentage, in this situation, went down. With that said, do you honestly think Social Security is going to be around after my generation reaches the ages of 65? No, Social Security will be long gone once the baby boomers are done with it. Therefore, the % will go back to 98% of people WILL be broke by the age of 65. So, have fun people broke ya' rah-tards.
ReplyDeletegotta love them scamway douchebags.
