One of the things that my upline taught, and I believe is still taught today in various groups is that winners join Amway and losers do not. Or that you were a winner because you were doing something to better your financial future and those who didn't were losers. or broke minded. Of course the upline who said this had no knowledge about those who were not in Amway. Some of them may already have been financially sound or may have been doing something to better their financial future. I'm not sure why these uplines, who promote "positive", had to resort to calling people losers simpy because they did not agree that Amway was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
In many games or sporting events, there will be someone or a team that wins the game and someone or a team that loses the game. Losing a game doesn't make you a loser and certainly, a team that wins the game would not say the losing team were losers. Can you imagine a pro football team's coach taking the podium after a game and saying his team won because the other team was a bunch or broke minded gutless losers? That would never happen, yet we see that frequently in the Amway/IBO world. The owner of Amway, Rich DeVos had once said in a recorded message that just because people do not agree with you (paraphrased) about Amway, does not make them losers and that IBOs should not call people losers.
In all of this, people's jobs are also criticized. That a job stand for "just over broke" or "jackass of the boss" and other blurbs. Many IBO's goals and dreams consist of ditching their job so they can sleep all day and live a life of luxury. Ironically, it is most IBO's jobs that continue to produce income so they can pay their bills and feed their family. It is also an IBO's job that funds their Amway and AMO expenses such as product purchases and functions and voicemail, etc. Without having a job, most people could not even join Amway or pay for any tools. Sadly, most IBOs won't make any money in Amway either, and will have to continue to work at their jobs. I do not believe that someone earning an honest living working a job is a loser. Ironically, the folks calling people losers are often not even netting a profit from their Amway business!
Yes, in this business or the sports world, there will be winners and there will be losers. The question is whether you are the one who is allowed to be the judge of who is and who isn't. I would also suggest that IBOs are completely shutting down potential future business by their behavior. What if I went to a store to purchase something but the item was not available on that particular day, so I don't purchase anything and leave. As I leave, the store owner says I am a loser for not buying something there. Will I go back? Very unlikely. If an IBO truly sees themselves as a store owner, all prospects should be seen as potential business, whether future or present. If your upline tells you that people not interested are losers, you should hand him a mirror.
Not only do they call us losers and out down jobs. They say critics have no solutions for their financial problems. Or a replacement business opportunity for them if they quit Amway.
ReplyDeleteLOL, just because Amway sucks as a business opportunity and someone points it out, why are they obligated to find you a better opportunity?
DeleteThat is funny!
Because every Amway meeting the their upline tell them critics have no solution. We can't offer them another opportunity or chance to improve their life. We just say negative bs. Go to most forums and pro ambots all say we critics offer no other business opportunity to help. Maybe the other problem is they feel loved and need company. When people join Amway some are just lonely and need company
DeleteWell, doing nothing is usually better than Amway. Delivering newspapers is better than Amway. Working for minimum wage is better than Amway for most people. Because most people making nothing or lose money, panhandling is better than Amway. Walking around looking for spare change on the ground is likely more lucrative than Amway.
DeleteHere's how this works. You pump someone up telling them that they are winners for joining and people who don't are losers. If you have low self-esteem and haven't received a ton of recognition before, this is very appealing - so you accept it happily. Next, you are shown people who "stuck it out" and didn't quit who are called winners. Quitters are called losers as well. In your new IBO happy, excited state, quitting isn't something you see yourself every doing so you accept this as fact too.
ReplyDeleteHere's the catch. Now you are trapped. You have accepted the premise that joining Amway made you a winner and quitting Amway = quitting on your dreams (which is nonsense) and if you quit you are a loser. However, your business isn't working and you don't know why. All the speakers and Cds say that it's your fault because Amway is great, your upline is great, and it's working for everyone else (not true). The ugly truth that's not being told is 99.99% of IBOs never see a yearly profit and you are attempting to build one of the hardest businesses in the world with one of the worst reputations in the world with some of the highest prices in the world.....whew, good luck.
This is why most IBOs leave with their head down, defeated and shamed. They have heard from stage stories of "losers" and "quitters" and now they are faced with the same decision. Do they quit and become a loser or do they "stay in" and save face?
I'm glad that the scales fell from my eyes and I was able to leave with my head held high, even though in the past I was one of the most rabid, sold out IBOs you have ever seen.
Good comment. Thanks for sharing that. The Amway leaders actually use clever psychology and set it up so that you join thinking you have won. But month after month of losing money helps reality set in. But not wanting to be a quitter or loser makes it hard to quit. They also teach you that failure is your own fault. I believe for that reason, many people do not complain, seek refunds or make noise even if they got ripped off.
DeleteSounds like you are really hurt by not making it in AmWay. What was the main reason you did not succeed?
DeleteI'm not hurt, but my upline lied and ripped us off. I didn't realize it until after I left the business. Now I share my experiences because those same uplines are still lying and ripping people off. If my experience can save a few people, then it's all good.
DeleteThe main reason he didn't succeed is because the business is stupid and doesn't make sense to build.
DeleteAgreed. The Amway business is flawed and designed for most to fail.
DeleteMy ex diamond who was very successful in Amway is back to work. Can't be that great if people are leaving.
DeleteWho is your ex diamond if you don't mind saying?
DeleteSo if you join Amway at 19 years old because you want to make a few dollars selling protein bars in college, then you are somehow obligated to build Amway until the day you die or you're a loser?
ReplyDeletePuhhhhh-lease. Get a new pitch, Amway apologists.
Yes, you are right. But you could buy protein bars at Costco and sell them easier than the Amway ones because it's cheaper at Costco. LOL
