One of the things IBOs are taught is to blame themselves for is not working the business hard enough or not doing things right, even if they do exactly as upline advised. Actually, nothing could be further from the truth. It's just that uplines want to be absolved from any responsibility so they teach downline that failure in Amway is their own (The downline's) fault. Upline is also quick to take credit for any success, of course.
But the reason is why hard work doesn't equal success is because an Amway IBO is basically a commissioned sales person. In commissioned sales, one can work hard for no reward and at times, little effort may reap large rewards. But in Amway, with a spotty reputation, Amway IBOs are given a handicap that most simply cannot overcome. Getting new people to recruitment meetings is hard enough, not even factoring in the abililty to sponsor others. When factoring in these tidbits, it's easy to see why uplines teach buy from yourself and selling is not important. It deflects the fact that selling is nearly impossible with less than competitive prices (in general)
The work involved is very simple. Sell products and get other IBOs in your downline to be able to leverage your volume. Many IBOs work hard and attend all of the functions and do all of the steps as outlined by upline, but very few reap rewards and most quit when they realize that the system doesn't work. It is sad that on top of losing money, that IBOs are also taught to blame themselves for their demise. Where is the upline when IBOs bust their butts working har and get no rewards? On top of that, to make it worse, uplines profit from selling training and motivation to their downlines. Why aren't they held acountable?
I've read comments by some Amway defenders wanting to sue Amway critics for a potential loss of business. But most critics, like myself are simply stating our experiences and opinions. Many of which are true and still happening today. So I will ask, what about the millions of former IBOs who may have lost billions of dollars because of false claims which led them to believe that they would get rich following upline advice? Maybe former IBOs should unite and file claims against unethical upline leaders who led them astray?
In any case, hard work doesn't equate success in Amway and I dare anyone to try to prove me wrong.
The system doesn't work is exactly right, it's flawed from the very start. Any semi-competent business owner knows that 'consuming your inventory' is a very fast way to failure. How can you make money if you eat (consume) what you should be selling? Add on to this a load of fixed costs (Comunikat, standing orders, etc) plus a high retail cost for the goods AND Amway's lousy reputation, and it's easy to see Amway is a no-win opportunity. Oh, except for the lying, scheming, stealing, manipulative upline. They make out like bandits-literally.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you... being a new IBO (3 weeks only), I already see that I am not getting anything out of it but a big fat expense.. They are crazy if they think that I would give up selling AVON for them. No way!

I only start 2 month base on the value, but asking me buying learning tool and attempt the meeting and feel like waste of time? No thx!

DeleteThe idea is eat shop and get pay, and I think it is a good idea. It is the people who greed on money kills this wonderful concept. I am in cause the product value as personally, and I am type of person refused to do their standing order or open meeting.
DeleteIt's true that Amway has a negative image and this was caused by the motivational support groups not the Amway company or it's products. My wife and I have been in this business for over 35 yrs and have 200 personal customers or more not to mention a nice group of business partners. We have not avoided being active in our church or having fun with friends in order to go to meetings and functions etc. We promote the value and performance of the products. If one takes the time to figure out the cost per use we often beat the discount stores in price and our product performance is legendary. Many times they are rated # 1 in consumer report magazine but keep in mind the cost per use when figuring price. We don't promote buying CD's or getting involved with the so called support groups and organizations. Amway has all the support we need for "free." The diamonds of these motivational groups do in fact make much of their income from the tools and meetings they promote. Haven't you read that by Amway's own admission, less than 50% (probably more like less than 10%) of Amway's total sales are to outside (non-IBO) customers. This means that captive, commissioned SALES PEOPLE (read: IBO's) are the ones driving the sales volume, NOT outside customers. Get a clue!

I've yet to see ANY verification that Amway's products are either better quality OR lower cost per use. And exactly when were Amway products "rated #1 in consumer report magazine"?

You are right, Connie. Ambots spout the "superior quality" and "highly concentrated" properties of their products to justify the massive mark-up, but I have yet to see non-Amway sponsored data to back it up.
DeleteTo say that their product's performance is "legendary" is in the minds of the Ambots themselves to justify the high cost. If it were really "legendary", more people outside of the self-consuming Ambots themselves would be buying it.
And what's with constantly bringing up the billions of dollars Amway as a company makes? It has absolutely nothing to do with the earnings of the lowly IBO's, and merely shows how good the folks at the top of the pyramid are in suckering in a constant supply of victims to siphon money out of. By Amway's own small print, less a than a fraction of 1% of folks will be successful at making the "lifelong residual income" needed to walk the beaches of the world.
How has Amway been around for so many years? The same way the Moonies have been, as well as other cults. They have the scheme of luring in and brainwashing down to a science.
