Are You "Core"?

Here is a breakdodown of CORE and why it doesn’t work. Here are the CORE steps. Some groups may have variations of CORE, but this is generally what many groups use. CORE is allegedly the proven system of success. Apologists claims that people who are CORE for at least six months straight will succeed. I doubt it. There are many examples, including my former sponsor who can suggest it doesn't work.

1 - Show the Plan (10-15 per month)
2 - Retail the Products (10 customers @10 PV each)
3 – Tapes/cds
4 - Books
5- Functions (attend all)
6 - Accountability
7 - Counsel with Upline (Be teachable!)
8 - Buy 100% of your own products
9 – Communikate

Many upline will tell you that your success is nearly 100% guaranteed if you follow these steps for 2-5 years. Some Amway enthusiasts will tell you that 6 months of this activity will nearly assure you of a platinum level business. Certain steps are within the IBO’s control, such as reading every day and listening to cds, and attending functions. It is also easy enough to be accountable, counsel with upline, buy your own products, and use KATE (voicemail).

Here’s where an IBO’s efforts will break down. Showing the plan and retailing products. And remember, if you cannot do these steps then you are not considered “CORE” and your upline will likely tell you that it is your own fault and that you simply haven’t been CORE, therefore you did not achieve success. There is some truth in this but let me expose the system in a different angle.

Amway has a spotty reputation in the US. I don’t think anyone can dispute this fact. Therefore, for the vast majority of people, being able to show the plan 10-15 times per month is a nearly impossible task. If you are able to do this, you are a really good salesman or a good liar. In this scenario, the IBO is already successful, but not because of CORE, but simply because the IBO has the gift of being able to convince people into seeing the plan. But for many IBOs, they may contact hundreds of people and not be able to get anyone to see the plan. Even IBOs who follow upline advice on how to contact will probably not be able to show 10-15 plans per month. Thus this IBO, who is doing the work, will not be able to succeed. The system will blame the IBO, but the reality is that the IBO has too big of a disadvantage to overcome.

Secondly, with high prices (on average) and with a spotty reputation, most IBOs are unable to retail products. Amway itself has admitted that less than 4% of Amway products are sold to customers (non IBOs). Thus most IBOs are unable to sell products, therefore they are not CORE, therefore upline will blame the IBO for failure..

What if an IBO contacts 1000 people and cannot get 10 people to see the plan? Upline will claim that IBO is not CORE and therefore it is personal failure of the IBO. IMO, the only reason why upline can claim that CORE works is because in order to do the CORE steps consistently, you have to already be at a certain level of success. The vast majority of IBOs cannot and will never be able to reach that level.

That is the myth and the deception that many uplines will use to attract recruits. That each IBO can do the CORE steps. When only a fraction of 1% ever reach the level of platinum or higher, the numbers strongly support what is written here. Apologists are welcome to try and prove me wrong, but they can't.

Correction - that is five personal plans a week! And to achieve that you need to do 25 new contacts on weekly basis. Any plan shown on behalf of downlines is not included in here...
I really wanted to ask all Ambots, do you still talk about 12-15 hours a week effort through which you can make this business work in 2-5 years time? Stop cheating please.

From my experience in amway i dont fully agree. I got to platinum in less than a year basically by showing the plan as proposed by core. The way i see it is as follows. You need to be able to cold contact a lot and be very convincing to recruit. As you say not many people have these skills be it a good sales person or a liar. Secondly you need to be able to motivate your group. Again a difficult skill. As far as retailing i found this a waste of time. And the fact only 4% of amway sales come from retailing is proof. So dont bother. As far as tools are concerned this is a rip off , will cost you a fortune so i would avoid it. Finally you need to be prepared to put all your spare time into the business say 30 hours a week for many years. I think doing all that gives you some chance to succeed. Not a big chance but some. Other alternative is find something a bit easier which is what i did.

Hey Joecool,

So I had met up with a friend who still has been doing Amway for 2 years. Bringing up Amway was inevitable because he was showing signs of acting like a salesmen. 1.) When I was talking, he was looking around the restaurant at the waiters and waitresses and tried to say something to one of them. 2.) He was gushing on how he took these multivitamins in the morning and full of energy. 3.) His business was doing so well even though he took up a second job working at a buffet.

And the craziest part is, when I told him how MLM like Amway had essentially bottomless downline it was unsustainable and considered a pyramid scheme he just laughed. He said he didn't know how to explain to me, but said since I was not in it I had no idea on how it worked! Then he said in, 7 years he was going to become a millionaire by helping just 6 people. Yes just 6 people, make 100,000 dollars. Sad but true.

Sincerely,

Amwayscam. See my comment at 10.49 below. I think you can only succeed in this if you have 2 skills. 1. A superb ability to convince people your story is true 2. An invigorating energy and drive that allows you to motivate your group and keep a high energy level of about 30 hours a week the rest of your life. There are few people with that. So few people will succeed. For those who do succeed i doubt its worth the effort. Except maybe the double diamonds and above. There are many better opportunities available. Having said this if anyone wants to have a go well why not.

I thought I would get rich "finding 6" as well.

I wonder how long your friend will last? It is sad.

This is my third comment. Sorry. I just want to say that there are so many people like your friend and these keep amway growing. They believe enough to be in there probably using and stocking a lot of products , spending on tools and sponsoring a few who do the same. Then they quit. But with thousands joining every day , more than enough to replace those leaving, amway keeps growing. As i said in my other comments to succeed you need to be able to recruit large numbers of these people and find a few downlines who have similar skills to do the same. A big ask.

It just blew my mind when he said it confidently. Help six people make $100,000? I just couldn't even think how that is possible based on Amway alone.

But I know for a fact he's been using his job working at the fast food restaurant and buffet to talk to people about his "business" and schedule a day to "show the plan". Unfortunately I don't see a time when he'll stop Amway, Joecool...

Hi anti amway. If your friend wants to reach that level he needs to move gears. Im sure that if it was a yaeger sitting in that restaurant with you he would not be trying to talk to a waiter like your friend. He would have left the restaurant with the names of 25 people to show the plan to. And he would have sponsored half of those. Thats the type of convincing skills you need to have and the energy to do it every day. Thats why so few make money at this. Its just too difficult.

I see everyone writing about skills, but honestly it is just a numbers game! If you look at Amway business reference guide you can make out that it is designed to make more and more people lose the race.

Not sure you are right amwayscam. The big pins all have this very convincing and motivating skill. They would make it in any venture. See how some left amway and built just as big organisations in other mlms. The ordinary guy has no chance of ever doing that mainly because he cant convince. Thats why so many never progress. If i wanted to built amway i would use normal recruiting techniques and refuse to let the majority of people join. I would only sign up those natural leaders types.
