Stealing An IBO's Dream?

Some debates over Amway recently churned up some accusations once again about critics being "dream stealers". I thought I would address this but first I wanted to print the definition of a dream from dictionary.com:

dream
[dreem] Show IPA noun, verb, dreamed or dreamt, dream⋅ing, adjective
Use dreams in a Sentence
–noun
1. a succession of images, thoughts, or emotions passing through the mind during sleep.
2. the sleeping state in which this occurs.
3. an object seen in a dream.
4. an involuntary vision occurring to a person when awake.
5. a vision voluntarily indulged in while awake; daydream; reverie.
6. an aspiration; goal; aim: A trip to Europe is his dream.
7. a wild or vain fancy.
8. something of an unreal beauty, charm, or excellence.

–verb (used without object) 9. to have a dream.
10. to indulge in daydreams or reveries: He dreamed about vacation plans when he should have been working.
11. to think or conceive of something in a very remote way (usually fol. by of): I wouldn't dream of asking them.

–verb (used with object) 12. to see or imagine in sleep or in a vision.
13. to imagine as if in a dream; fancy; suppose.
14. to pass or spend (time) in dreaming (often fol. by away): to dream away the afternoon.

–adjective 15. most desirable; ideal: a dream vacation.

—Verb phrase
16. dream up, to form in the imagination; devise: They dreamed up the most impossible plan.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Based on these definitions, I do not see how it is possible for anyone to steal a dream. This dream stealing verbage is just more upline propaganda designed to get IBOs to shut off their critical thinking skills and to blindly commit themselves to buying more standing orders and function tickets, whose profit goes into the pockets of your beloved upline leaders. It the the upline's concern likely because the upline is selling dreams! Selling unrealistic dreams of retiring and walking the beaches of the world. Dreams that will never come true for the vast majority of IBOs.

I believe #6 is the most appropriate definition for an IBO. A long term goal. But if an IBO's long term goal is retirement and riches, they should analyze their involvement in the Amway business and determine if that is the appropriate vehicle to achieve their goals. For the vast majority of people, this is not the appropriate vehicle and facts confirm this. It's a matter of whether or not an IBO was told to ignore the facts by his/her upline.

I dont think this post adds up. I imagine the amway dream message is about getting people to fix objectives for themselves. This increases chances of achieving all or part of it. All corporations use objective setting for their staff. I think the dream stealing message is simply saying not to let people make you doubt or interfere with what you want to achieve. What i agree with in the post is amway will only deliver the dream for a few. But also only a small percentage of people generate above aVerage income for themselves outside of amway. Many people leaving amway state they gained something from these principles of setting objectives. So while tools etc are a rip off dream setting seems a positive part of the business

How many people actually achieve any of the dreams? Why aren't the diamonds "walking away from Amway to be on the beaches of the world"? Why are the diamonds still working? That's the point. The diamonds are selling false hopes and dreams in the first place. Too many unfilled promises.

you can dream without being in amway. are you really that dumb?

Dream is stolen when you work for someone else is the biggest Amway cult propaganda. But they fail to realise, Amway employees also work for Amway (i.e. someone else) and because of them they have what they have at the moment. Let all Amway employees quit and we shall see who still cares for dreams!

Reply to annonymous and Joe cool .annon Of course you dont have to be in amway to dream; My point is that the dream setting part of amway is a postive part of the business and as I said many people leaving amway used these concepts in other parts of life and found them useful. There are many parts of amway that can be critised but that is hardly one of them.
joe . I think the statistics show that a small percentage achieve these stated dreams but the message is anyone can achieve it . the message is not everyone will achieve it. The leaders that made it had no advantage compared to anyone else except they had belief and kept motivating; and thats what it is about . selling a dream and motivating. this may may not stand up to morale challenge but that is what it is all about .

I cant agree with this post. I went direct ie platinum in the uk 28 years ago and then quit. Many people were saying to me its a fraud,it will never work, they dont pay sales tax, the products are too expensive and the final idiocy was of course it will be saturated soon. These people were stealing my dream (without realising it)and creating doubts in my mind. I just wanted to proof to myself that if one person could build it then i could too.Today amway is 12 times bigger than it was back then and will grow in the future. We never spent money on tools back then and i dont think anyone should do so now. But they will so i suppose the leaders will continue exploiting this.

Why did you quit?

A small percentage of people achieve their dreams playing the lottery. I don't think the lottery is a good way to try and achieve your dreams either.

I suppose i quit for the same reason i started. Being youthfull i thought this seems a cool thing to do. At least different. I hit direct after 7 months. I knew the uplines were bullshiting a lot and enjoyed not following their addvice. I started every plan by saying most of you will never do anything in this And then after getting the direct pinagain youthfully thought why not do something else. A bit older and less energetic now but might aim to take it to diamond just for the hell of it

Its not going to happen. People will always think they can do it and not many have heard of amway. At least here in france there are only 20000 ibo in a population of 66 million.
